The State of the World Economy

Addressing economic and social concerns in Europe from the perspective of ordinary people

This work examines a range of global economic policy issues based on a rigorous analysis of trends in population, income, energy supply and consumption, market shares, terms of trade and balance of payments.

The database and model – divided into 80 countries and country groups - will allow institutions in the various global regions to examine the impact of alternative scenarios on the growth of the world economy, and their regions.

Scenarios to be addressed include: the extent to which the US deficit is the ‘driver’ of global growth; the impact of longer term global energy use and supply; changes in the structure of trade and financial flows between the global regions; the specific impact of the development of China.

Its main authors are Francis Cripps and Alex Izurieta.

A small seminar was held in late 2005 in Paris to develop this work. (then link to attached text file) A presentation of a more developed form of the model will be held in Marseilles in early May 2006.
